Guilin is a very beautiful and one of the most laid-back cities in China. In and around the city, including the township of Yangshuo and Longsheng, there are so many fun things to do with nature like biking, hiking, rafting and mountain climbing from easy to medium level.
If you have 24 hours stopover in Guilin or short time spared from your business, a Li River Cruise from Guilin to Yangshuo with round-trip transfer is a must. Cruise journey starts from Guilin to Yangshuo, taking some 4-5 hours.
Two full days (72-hour visa free transit) will allow you an exploration with a day of Guilin’s highlights – Reed Flute Cave, Elephant Trunk Hill, Two Rivers and Four Lakes (walking or boat ride); and a day of Li River Cruise plus countryside visit of Yangshuo.

December to February can be depressingly cold at rainy days. Hotels and shopping area are airconditioned but no heating system in southern China. Also avoid the public holidays like National Day and Spring Festival if possible.
