The Shenzhen Observatory, also known as the Xichong Observatory, is located in Xichong, Nanao Street, Dapeng New District, Shenzhen. Nestled in a vast and picturesque setting, it offers a peaceful and beautiful environment. Since its completion in 2010, it has become a haven for astronomy enthusiasts. The main buildings include the Astronomy Tower, Meteorological Tower, and the General Building, all equipped with state-of-the-art astronomical observation facilities. The observatory also serves as a key base for marine research, academic studies, and science education.

Located along the East-West Chong coastline, which National Geographic has named one of the "Top Eight Most Beautiful Coastlines in China," the Shenzhen Observatory offers uninterrupted, breathtaking views of the sea. You can also climb the stunning "Sky Ladder," and from the observatory, enjoy a panoramic 280-degree view of the ocean.

A winding hiking trail, known as the "Instagrammable Boardwalk," stretches from the observatory down to the shore, where it reaches the iconic "Chuānbíyán" rock, providing hikers with an unforgettable scenic route.

Whether you're here to unravel the mysteries of the cosmos, soak in the magnificent sea views, or experience the joy of hiking, the Shenzhen Observatory is a destination you won’t want to miss.

Shenzhen Observatory Travel Tips

1. The public areas of Shenzhen Observatory are free to access. However, if you wish to visit specific areas such as the Astronomy Tower, General Building, Science Exhibition Hall, or the upper section of the Observatory Boardwalk, a reservation is required. The observatory is open Tuesday to Sunday from 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM (closed on Mondays for regular maintenance). In case of equipment maintenance or adverse weather conditions, the opening hours may be temporarily suspended. Reservations open every Monday at 10:00 AM, with limited availability (150 pax in the morning, 150 pax in the afternoon). Once the slots are filled, no further bookings will be accepted.

2. No reservation is needed to visit the lower section of the Observatory Boardwalk (public area), and it remains open on Mondays. You can enter directly through Gate 2. The trail has a certain level of difficulty, so if you're traveling with elderly people or children, please assess their physical ability before choosing the route. Wheelchair users are advised not to visit this area.

3. It is recommended to check the weather forecast before your visit. Clear skies and good weather are essential for enjoying the views. Also, as there is no shelter along the route, make sure to take sun protection measures. If there is rain or heavy fog, please consider rescheduling your visit.

4. Wear non-slip sports shoes for a safe and comfortable experience.
