Fenghuang is an ancient town in western boundary of Hunan province, central China. The town is well-preserved and enjoys the same reputation as Pingyao in Shanxi and Lijiang in Yunnan. Their traditional wooden houses line along the Tuojiang river that flows through most of the village. The old quarter were all circled by protective walls built up at the same time in Ming dynasties some 500 years ago. Parts of the wall are preserved and become iconic points to take photo. The town is even more beautiful in early morning mist or evening light. The only disadvantage is that the town is quite isolated from big cities.
