One Day Hong Kong Itinerary for Central and Lantau Island

Mia Hong Kong Travel Guide 2024-09-13

If you're arriving in Hong Kong on a short flight or by road from Macau/Zhuhai via the mega bridge (or heading back), this classic one-day Hong Kong itinerary makes the most of your time.

The first stop is Lantau Island, where you'll visit the Big Buddha, the famous Po Lin Monastery, the spiritual Wisdom Path, and Ngong Ping Village. Enjoy a scenic cable car ride that offers stunning views of the island, sea, and the grand bridge.

When heading into central Hong Kong, start at Tsim Sha Tsui, where you can stroll along the Avenue of Stars and take the Star Ferry to admire the beautiful Victoria Harbour. If time allows, explore bustling Hong Kong Central, which blends modern city life with local culture. End your day at Victoria Peak to take in the sunset or the spectacular evening skyline of Victoria Harbour.

Brief Itinerary for Lantau and Central Hong Kong Visit

Ngong Ping 360 Cable Car (0.5 hours) – Ngong Ping Village + Big Buddha + Po Lin Monastery (1-2 hours) – Lunch – Avenue of Stars (0.5 hours) – Star Ferry (0.5 hours) – Central (1-2 hours) – Victoria Peak (1-2 hours).

  1. The itinerary is based on traveling with a private car, allowing you to adjust the schedule or swap attractions according to your preferences.

  2. Travel during public holidays takes longer time at each sight. Drive up and down to the peak is recommended than the cable car or tram ride.

  3. If you plan to use public transportation, you may need to reduce the number of stops and carefully plan your routes.

Hong Kong Car Rental for Touring

Renting an Alphard is the most convenient way to explore Hong Kong. With narrow roads and limited parking, the Alphard's maneuverability is perfect for navigating the city. It also makes pick-ups and drop-offs hassle-free. Booking early may secure an English-speaking driver.
