Arrive in Lhasa

Lhasa is one of the highest cities in the world and is a city of wonder to all the visitors. Under the government-led development, the city now has flight and train connection to major cities in China.

Upon your arrival in Lhasa, guide will meet you at the train station/ flight arrival, then transfer you to the hotel to check in. Local guide will brief you the dos and don'ts in Lhasa. Take a good rest to prepare for the trip in the next few days.

Start visit from the Potala Palace which is the most grandiose palaces in the world, decorated countless statues, murals and antiques. The outstanding structure is built on the red hill and as old as the Lhasa city and has a history of more than 1300 years.

Come next is Jokhang Temple, for most Tibetans it is the most sacred and important temple in Tibet. Its architectural style is a mixture of Indian vihara design, Chinese Tang Dynasty design, and Nepalese design. And the temple is at the heart of a rich and living Tibetan Buddhism.

Surrounding the temple is Barkhor Street. It is a popular devotional circuit for pilgrims and locals. For visitors, it is a colorful, lively and authentic street with hundreds of stores and vendors selling all kinds of Tibetan items.

Today's visit includes two iconic attractions in Lhasa. One is Drepung Monastery, located at the foot of Mount Gephel, which the largest monastery in the world. It is housed 7,700 monks and built in 1416. The monastery is considered as one of the 'Three Great Monasteries' along with Garden and Sera. Another is Sera Monastery, built in 1419, which is one the three Gelugpa monasteries in Lhasa.

Drive about 50km to Gandan Monastery. It was founded in 1409 by Je Tsongkhapa, founder of the Gelug order. The monastery has extremely delicate and fine murals and sculptures. On the way back, drop in one or two Tibetan Family to experience local life.
